Social media for tour operators: where and what to post

Be active on Facebook and Instagram first, add short video for younger guests, and lead every post to a booking.

Start with Facebook and Instagram

NetworkWhat it's for
Facebook, a mustYour Page: tours, reviews, events and messages. Your Meta ads run from it.
Instagram, a mustPhotos, Reels and Stories of each tour, and a bio link to book
TikTok, nextShort videos for travellers under 35 and from the US
YouTube, nextThe same clips as Shorts, and longer videos of what to expect

YouTube, Instagram and TikTok matter most to younger travellers (Arival, 2025). Claim the same handle on each before you post: see Name and domain.

TikTok books tours in the US

Since May 2026, people in the US can book tours from TikTok videos with TikTok GO, through booking sites such as Viator, GetYourGuide and Tiqets: your listings there can reach TikTok's travellers. See Online travel agencies.

Post what makes people book

The real tour

The start, the highlight and your guide, filmed on the day. No stock photos.

Answers

A short video for each question guests ask most: what to wear, the pickup, the weather.

This week

News that makes people book now: whales this week, snow on the pass, a new route.

Your guests

Their photos and videos, reposted with permission and their name.

Post 2 to 4 times a week. Film vertical clips of 15 to 45 seconds: one clip serves as a Reel, a Short and a TikTok.

Lead every post to a booking

Check each profile and post for these:

  1. 1
A bio link that opens your tours page

With a tracking tag that shows the bookings it brings.

  2. 2
Your WhatsApp number on the profile

    For questions before booking.

  3. 3
The tour's name in every post

    And where to book it.

  4. 4
    Fast replies

Messages within the hour, comments the same day: see Enquiries and WhatsApp.

Share your guests' photos

Nearly 7 in 10 US tour takers posted about their tour on Facebook, nearly 6 in 10 on Instagram and nearly half on TikTok (Arival, 2024).

  1. 1

Show your handle at the best photo stop

On a small sign, and ask guests to tag you.

  2. 2

    Ask before you repost

Ask in a message, name them in your post, and ask again before an ad uses it.

Work with creators who suit your guests

  • Check that a creator's followers match your guests' countries, languages and ages: ask for a screenshot of their statistics.
  • Agree the posts, the dates and your right to reuse them in writing, and give the creator a promo code of their own.
  • Never buy followers or views: fake accounts don't book tours.

In TourTask

Add your social pages to your Business profile, and your TourTask website links to them. Connect Instagram and Messenger, and the AI assistant answers their messages while your team can take over in the Inbox: see Messaging apps. Give each creator a promo code of their own.
