How to name a tour company and secure its domain and handles

Choose the name first: it goes on your domain, your handles, your signs and every listing.

Choose a name that works

Short

Quick to say, remember and type on a phone.

Easy to spell

In your guests' languages too.

Says what you do

A word of your own plus the activity, such as Lumo Kayak Tours.

Free everywhere

As a .com and on Facebook and Instagram.

The activity word helps on Google Maps. In a 2026 study, travel businesses whose name exactly matched the search reached the top 3 results 30% of the time, against 6% without those words (Whitespark).

Use it in your real name, the one on your sign, website and vouchers: Google can suspend a Google Business Profile with words added to its name. How to set the profile up: see Google Business Profile.

Test the name before you decide

  • ✓Say it once on the phone: can the listener find it on Google?
  • ✓No hyphens or digits (“4” or “four”?), and no accents or ñ in the domain and handles
  • ✓Check its meaning in your guests' main languages, and that foreigners can spell a local word
  • ✓No similar name nearby on Google Maps, Tripadvisor or the online travel agencies, where reviews and bookings would mix
  • ✓Not tied to one tour or time of day: a “sunset” name can't sell a morning hike

Choose the domain

Your guestsMain addressAlso register
Mostly from abroadyourcompany.comYour country's domain, pointing to it
Mostly from your countryYour country's domain (.cl, .mx, .es)The .com, if it is free

Google reads a country's domain as a website for that country alone; Colombia's .co counts as generic, unlike .com.co (2025).

  • ✓Register it in your business's own account at the registrar, not a web designer's
  • ✓Use your own e-mail as the contact, and answer the registrar's e-mails within 15 days
  • ✓Turn on auto-renew, with a card that won't expire soon

Claim your handles the same day

Register the same handle on every network the day you buy the domain, even where you will post later. If it is taken, add one word to it everywhere, such as “tours” or your city.

Show your TourTask website on your own domain with two DNS records; your e-mail stays where it is: see Connect your domain. Your phones, WhatsApp and social links are set once in your Business profile.
