Hotel desks and travel agents: commissions, flyers and deals

Hotel desks and agents sell your tours for a commission, and schools and companies book whole groups: count every sale and keep one public price.

Start with hotel desks near your pickups

  1. 1

Visit 10 to 20 in person

Hotel receptions, hostels, concierges, shops and tourist information centres near your pickups.

  2. 2

Agree a commission per booking, in writing

    With the agreement below.

  3. 3

Give each desk its own link or QR code

So every booking counts for the right desk.

  4. 4

Take reception staff on a free tour

A fam trip: people sell what they've enjoyed.

  5. 5

Pay every month, with a statement

Each booking, its date and its commission.

  6. 6

Review after two or three months

Drop the desks that don't sell; reward those that do.

Make flyers you can count

  • ✓One tour, its price and currency, its length and one photo
  • ✓A QR code for each desk that opens the tour's page, with a tracking tag naming the desk
  • ✓A short web address for guests who don't scan

Work with travel agents and DMCs

  • Send a rate sheet before each season, and never change a partner's net rate mid-season.
  • Answer quote requests the same day.
  • Send a trade pack: photos, itinerary, inclusions and terms.
  • Invite agency staff on a fam trip.

Commission agreement

Commission agreement between [your company] (the operator) and [hotel or shop] (the partner)

1. The partner sells the operator's tours at the operator's public prices, with no discounts of its own.
2. For each booking made through the partner's link or QR code, or in its name, the operator pays the partner [rate]% of the price paid.
3. Commission is due once a booking is fully paid and its tour has taken place. Cancelled and refunded bookings earn none.
4. By the [day] of each month, the operator sends a statement of the commission earned the previous month and pays it by bank transfer.
5. The partner takes no payment for the tours unless both agree in writing.
6. Either side can end this agreement with 30 days' written notice.

Make each hotel desk a seller with its own commission, links and QR codes, and give agents prices of their own: see Partners. A partner hotel can also see which of your guests stay there.
