What is Civitatis?
Civitatis, founded in Madrid in 2008, is the leading online marketplace for guided tours, excursions and activities in Spanish and Portuguese. It offers tens of thousands of activities in thousands of destinations around the world, and its travelers, above all from Spain, Portugal and Latin America, book them in their own language.
For operators, Civitatis opens the door to Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking travelers. It connects to TourTask over OCTO, the open standard for booking tours and activities: Civitatis reads your live availability and prices from TourTask, and every Civitatis booking lands in the same calendar as your direct sales, so you never oversell.
Register your business at Civitatis
- 1
Go to this link to sign up as an activity supplier at Civitatis:
- 2
Fill in the registration request. The Civitatis team then contacts you to confirm your details, and once your account is set up you log in to the Civitatis provider area from the same page.
Activate Civitatis in TourTask
- 1
If you haven't activated Civitatis in your TourTask panel yet, then you can do this by going to Channel Manager > Online travel agencies > Civitatis and clicking Start integrating.
- 2
Civitatis connects to TourTask with an API key. In Channel manager > Online travel agencies > Civitatis, open the menu and choose Generate API key, then copy the key: it is shown only once. If you lose it, choose Rotate API key in the same menu to get a new one. The old key stops working at once, so give Civitatis the new key straight away.
Your products and options in TourTask
- 1
All your tours and packages are available in the shared product catalog under Channel manager > Online travel agencies, grouped as tours (by category) and packages — ready to connect to Civitatis.
- 2
Turn on the products you want to sell on Civitatis. In Channel manager > Online travel agencies > Civitatis, each tour and package has a Sell on Civitatis switch, and only the products you switch on are offered to Civitatis. New tours and packages start switched off, so come back and switch them on: a product that is off is invisible to Civitatis.
- 3
Each product already comes with a default option. You only add extra options when you want to sell a variation that differs from the default — for example a different tour variant (such as another language or pick-up point), or a version that includes optional add-ons. To add one, click the pen icon on the product in the catalog and add your options. If a tour has just one variant and no add-ons, there is nothing extra to set up.
- 4
A package is offered to Civitatis as a single product. When Civitatis books it, all of its tours are booked together in one booking.
- 5
Civitatis is not offered add-ons as extras. To sell a tour with an add-on on Civitatis, give the product an option that includes the add-on: the add-on is then part of that option's price.
Connect TourTask to Civitatis
- 1
Give your API key to Civitatis. Civitatis uses it to connect to your TourTask account, then connects your products on its side.
- 2
Civitatis links each of your activities on Civitatis to a TourTask product and option. If it asks which is which, give it their codes: Copy code, in a product's menu on the Civitatis page, copies the product and option codes.
- 3
Once Civitatis has connected your products, it reads your live availability and prices from TourTask, and every Civitatis booking appears in your TourTask calendar automatically.
Control your prices for Civitatis
TourTask sends your prices to Civitatis automatically, so you never type prices into the Civitatis portal by hand and they always stay in sync. You decide what Civitatis charges from Channel manager > Online travel agencies > Civitatis, using three settings:
- Civitatis commission. Enter the commission Civitatis charges you. By default TourTask uses Cover commission, which automatically raises the price sent to Civitatis just enough that, after their commission is deducted, you still receive your normal TourTask price.
- A markup for all tours. If you would rather set your own margin, switch to Custom markup and enter a single percentage. It is added to every tour you sell on Civitatis — for example to list a little higher on Civitatis than on your own website.
- Price overrides per product. You can fine-tune individual products in the Product pricing section by setting a different markup percentage for a specific tour or package. Any product without an override keeps the channel-wide setting above.
Prices are sent to Civitatis in your TourTask sales currency.
How Civitatis bookings work
- 1
Civitatis first holds the places and the price while the traveler pays, then confirms the booking. Nobody is notified while a booking is only held. A hold that is never confirmed expires, and its places are freed within about a minute of its expiry; a hold never lasts past the booking cut-off.
- 2
Unlike on Viator and GetYourGuide, a tour you set to manual confirmation stays bookable on Civitatis: its bookings arrive pending, and you Accept or Reject each one on its booking page. A pending booking you have not answered by the tour's booking cut-off is rejected automatically, and your business gets an e-mail saying so.
- 3
Civitatis can cancel a confirmed booking until the tour starts, with the refund your cancellation policy gives.
- 4
When Civitatis tests its connection against your account, the bookings it makes are test bookings: they hold their places and show in your bookings like any other, but nobody is notified about them.
