What is PayPal?

PayPal is a huge payment gateway that enables businesses to receive payments online in an automated and secure way. It has support for over 200 countries and 25 currencies.

Get lower rates with PayPal

If you have large amounts of transactions with PayPal, you will have opportunities of getting better prices, so called merchant rates. If you receive on average 5000 USD or more per month, you may contact the PayPal support and ask for these improved rates.

Obtain required credentials for PayPal

To integrate PayPal with TourTask, you will first need to obtain a set of credentials (often referred to as API credentials), which will identify you when your clients pay you using the PayPal payment gateway.

For PayPal, the following credentials are required:

  • API username
  • API password
  • Signature

To obtain these credentials, please follow these steps:

Is your PayPal account a business account or a personal account? Business account Personal account I don't know

Set up a PayPal business account

  1. Go to www.paypal.com/en/webapps/mpp/country-worldwide and select your country.
  2. Click the button "Sign Up" in the top right corner and select Business account.
  3. Follow the instructions to set up your PayPal business account.

Convert your personal PayPal account to a business account

To receive payments you need to convert your personal account to a business account.

  1. Log in to your account at www.paypal.com.
  2. Enter your settings by clicking the cogwheel icon in the top right corner.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, click Upgrade to a Business account and follow the instructions.

Find out what account type you have

Log in to your account at www.paypal.com.

  • If you in the top right corner have a cogwheel icon , you have a personal account.
  • If you in the top right corner can see your name, you have a business account.

Please select your correct account type in the box above to proceed.

Obtain API credentials

Once you have your PayPal business account, you need to obtain something called API credentials, which are keys used to identify your account when connecting it to TourTask.

  1. Log in to your account at www.paypal.com.
  2. Hover over your name on the top right corner and click "Account Settings".
  3. Go to Account & Security > Account access > API access > Update > NVP/SOAP API integration (Classic) > Manage API credentials
  4. Select Request an API signature and click Agree and submit.
  5. Copy and paste the values of your API username, API password and Signature into the TourTask PayPal configuration, located in TourTask under Configuration > Payment options.

Lift PayPal withdrawal limits

It's important that you confirm and validate anything that PayPal asks you for to avoid having PayPal restrict money withdrawal from your account. Until this is done, PayPal will typically allow you to receive money though without a problem, but not withdraw freely. PayPal may ask you to validate things such as e-mail, debit/credit card, bank account, company registration, identity documents etc. Any validation requests can be seen in the dashboard when you're logged into your PayPal account.

You can view any limits affecting your account in Account Settings > Limits > View. If it's possible to further raise or lift these limits, you may click Lift Limits at the bottom of that screen and follow the instructions.

How to setup PayPal in TourTask

For PayPal, the following credentials are required:

  • API username
  • API password
  • Signature

These credentials must be entered in TourTask to activate this payment gateway. To achieve this, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your business panel in TourTask at [business shortcode].tourtask.com. Your business shortcode will often consist of the initials of your business name, so for a business called My Tour Business, the URL of your business panel would be mtb.tourtask.com.
  2. Go to Configuration > Payment Options and select the PayPal payment gateway.
  3. Select country and currency and add the gateway.
  4. Optionally add a surcharge to cover transaction costs on your side when clients pay using PayPal. Fill out the required credentials and activate the gateway.
